We begin a short series of Tuesday night programs on the subject of Secular Buddhism.
The phrase Secular Buddhism means different things to different people. The ambiguity seems to be encouraged. Steve Hansen and John Graber will try to shed some light on what it may mean in three or four programs, beginning this Tuesday, November 16. We will start this first session with a brief meditation, shorter than usual, followed by John’s presentation of Stephen Batchelor's "Ten Theses" (harken Luther, if you like) and ending with a 32 minute recorded talk by Batchelor on the adaptable nature of the dharma, secular buddhism, and superiority conceit as he presents”The Parable of the Snake”. You may want to listen to this beforehand at this link.
Discussion will follow, as time allows. |
